Lee Hutchings designs and produces one-of-a-kind necklaces using
all-glass imported beads. Creating hand loomed beadwork, bead by bead,
is painstakingly meticulous work, and the resulting necklace is as
tactile as woven fabric.
|
Hutchings has been designing beadwork for over 20 years, and he
credits his long-time friend and associate Cherokee Blackfoot Indian,
Ray Davis, with teaching him the craft. Lee continues in the Davis
legacy with many traditional native designs like the Navajo rug
pattern and other designs reminiscent of woven baskets. He also
includes oval and evening star designs as well as his own personal
creations.
|
|
“Colors really dictate the designs, as there is such a
marvelous selection of colors available from the
resplendent glass beads I get in Czechoslovakia or
Japan,” says Lee. “And it's especially exciting now as
the colors are so wild.”

There
are three types of necklaces offered:
- The longer necklace of 13 inches
simply slips over the head, and is
very light to wear.
|
- The shorter version of the longer
necklace is nine inches and uses a
clasp behind the neck.
|
- The third type of necklace is
also shorter with a clasp, but has
considerable more intricate bead work.
