Hozhoni: A Navajo word meaning
“oneness with the
universe...right feeling and right thinking in the
world.”
Kathy Watson connected with the Indian culture at a very early age. Her parents collected Indian artifacts, and she spent her time growing up in the wilderness amongst the sagebrush and arrowheads. She was particularly fascinated by Navajo
sand paintings and the powerful symbolism they portrayed: prosperity, togetherness and healing harmony.
As an adult, Watson took graduate courses in art from the University of Santa Cruz and has taught art to gifted children for twenty five years. She never really considered picking up a brush to produce art professionally until 1994. Her
incredible talent was instantly recognized, and the first weekend she sold over 35 paintings.
Watson's personal "Hozhoni" attitude is surely a significant contributing factor to the power of her art. She states: "I can express this unique feeling of individual spirit and joy through my art and come alive when I paint."
Today, her very popular and very colorful contemporary acrylic paintings hang in galleries in Nevada, California, Arizona, Kansas, and Florida.
